War games are part of the staple diet of any dedicated gamer and 2017 promises a rich harvest with upcoming titles such as Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, and Halo Wars 2, and Rising Storm 2. Coupled with titles released in October 2016 eg. Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2, 2017 promises to be a year of war not peace for Xbox users.
Below we have listed some of the best war games available on your Xbox 360 and Xbox One in 2017.
Explore the history of WW1, manage your strategies, and taste the battlefield experiences of frontline soldiers who fought through 4 years of that brutal war. World War 1 was the first mechanised war, but started off with soldiers riding into battle on horseback, it also saw the invention of the tank and the first effective use of planes for reconnassaince and bombing purposes. In this game you will get to take on a wide range of roles from tank commander, rifleman, to pilot or you can even get to train your pigeon to take information safely behind enemy lines. Battlefield 1 was released on the 21st of October 2016.
Sniper Ghost Warrior 3
This game, due out on the Xbox in April 2017, homes in on a single character; an American marine sniper called Jonathon North, whose mission it is to use his skills to further his countries interests in the midst of a factional conflict in Georgia between three rival groups. The really exciting development in this game is that it adopts open world game play experiences where the character can exploren the surrounding country to commit crimes or to find adventures other than the main task of sniping.
Rising Storm 2: Vietnam
The War game I ever played was a Vietnam themed game: Platoon on the Amstrad CPC 464, way back in 1987. Fast forward 30 years and with Rising Storm 2: Vietnam the best war game of 2017 may be set in the same jungles, fighting the same conflict. The previews of the game that have been leaked to the press suggest that this will be the best game about the Vietnam War ever released. Fighting your way through tunnels, hacking through a dense forest fighting an unseen enemy, and all the other characteristics of that conflict are brought most realistically to life in this game and we really look forward to playing it.
This game is a homage to the first person shooter’s of old such as Call of Duty and Medal of Honor. It takes place in France and the Low countries as the Allies loosen the Nazi grip over Western Europe. A huge amount of research into the history of the battles and the terrains they were fought over went into the making of this game which has translated into an extremely realistic gaming experience. The game’s designers, Bulkhead Revisited, have also put alot of love into makig this a game of skill, a blast from the past shoot em’ up that will have you addicted in now time atall. The game is due for general release in May 2017.
Halo Wars 2
Halo Wars 2 is a very different game than the others in this list in that rather than being based on a real conflict set on earth, it takes our imagination and heroes on a flight of fancy faraway worlds to fight mysterious aliens. Of course the game has some similiarites with the other games in this list such as gun fire in war, but unlike the other games this one takes place in a distant future – the year 2559 to be precise. Footage of actual game play that has been released by the developers suggest a worthy sequel to the original classic and we look forward to getting our hands on the whole game.
